Vague Characters
Galerie Karin Guenther is pleased to present Agnes Lux’s Vague Characters, her second solo exhibition with the gallery.
Personalized forms become patterns by copying and copying and leading back to a poetic expression, by doubling and doubling almost expressive renderings of standardized parts. Are these people, crowds, moving all at once, seen through shapes of garment?
Painted, layered forms, letters, characters, signs build striations and flat shapes in all their quotidian complexity. Who are many and what is one? Each filling out the form to make a whole, a movement, character, type, phrase. Recurring outlines are shaped into painterly marks, striations of materials into poetic surfaces.
Lux introduces new paintings made of fabric, denim, canvas and oil paint. Shapes deriving from sewing patterns are painted and cut out again and again until layered into complex compositions.
